The valuable course

Looking back on our physics course now, I realize how demanding it truly was—especially for someone like me who had largely forgotten much of the school physics program. Many of my classmates seemed far more prepared and were already comfortable solving technical exercises. The course contained numerous problems on foundational topics such as basic mechanics and electricity, and at first this felt overwhelming.

The computer-based test alone consisted of 50 problems, each of which required careful reasoning. Fortunately, answer choices were provided, which made it somewhat easier to succeed if you could recognize the correct solution. In total, we had three physics tests. All of them were challenging, yet the professors gave us generous time—usually two hours—to work through 50–60 questions. Interestingly, to pass the test it was sufficient to solve only about 15 correctly, which shows that the instructors understood the difficulty level and designed the evaluation fairly.

During the third year we also studied theoretical mechanics, a subject that raised the level of complexity even further. For me, the tests remained difficult, although some students handled them more easily thanks to their strong analytical abilities. What I appreciated most was that the requirements for each test were always communicated clearly. If you followed the preparation guidelines carefully, you could realistically succeed.

The homework assignments, by contrast, were generally approachable and served as a helpful bridge between theory and practice. They allowed us to gradually build the skills necessary to solve more complicated problems.
